Senior correspondent Abraham “Bebot” Sison Jr. has died. He was 67.
Sison, the The STAR’s correspondent in Olongapo City and Zambales, died at the James Gordon General Memorial Hospital in Olongapo City at 5 a.m. yesterday, where he had been confined for two weeks, according to his son Don.
The veteran journalist had been reporting for The STAR for three decades. He roamed Olongapo City, the province of Zambales and Subic Bay Freeport, providing news and insights about these areas.
He wrote about the political dynasties in Zambales and chronicled the birth of the Subic Bay Freeport.
The intrepid Sison would stand his ground, regardless of the status of his adversary.
Beloved by many, Sison was fondly called Bebot for his easygoing demeanor and approachability.
With his signature fedora hat, leather jacket, goatee and sunglasses, Sison would stand out from a group of journalists.
He was considered an institution in the journalism industry of Zambales, having been one of the oldest practicing scribes in the area. Sison’s favorite story would always be the start of the Simbang Gabi/ Misa de Gallo every Christmas season, since his birthday falls on Dec. 16.
He is survived by his wife Cora, their daughter Bingbing and sons Dexter and Don, and three grandchildren.
Sison’s remains will be brought to St. Peter’s Memorial Chapel in Barangay Tabacuan, Olongapo City.
