Iriga cop chief sacked

Emmanuel Tupas

The police chief of Iriga City in Camarines Sur has been relieved from his post over the arrest of a radio reporter who allegedly accessed a police blotter without clearance.

Lt. Col. Ralph Jason Oida was relieved on Thursday and replaced by Maj. Jabes Nicolas Napolis.

The National Union of Journalists of the Philippines said Pajares had Radyo Natin reporter Jose Rizal Pajares arrested on Aug. 2 supposedly for violating Republic Act 10173 or the Data Privacy Act.

Pajares, who spent three days in jail, was freed after posting bail of P10,000.

The Philippine National Police (PNP) had earlier ordered an investigation of Pajares’ detention to determine if there were lapses on the part of police officers involved.

Sought for comment, PNP chief Gen. Benjamin Acorda Jr. said he has yet to get details about the case.
